To empower young endocrinologists and physicians to achieve excellence in clinical endocrine care and to promote clinical research in the field of endocrinology. I will also promote and establish the role of ESI as a key leader for advocacy in the field of endocrinology.

Dr. Rajesh Rajput is presently working as Director, Division of Endocrinology & Diabetes in Medanta Gurugram. He was former Senior Professor and Head, Department of Endocrinology, PGIMS, Rohtak.

He has received various fellowships including FRCP (Edin), FACE (USA), FICP, FIACM, FIMSA, FISH, FRSSDI, FITS, FIPA, FDI.

Dr. Rajput has authored over 180 publications in indexed national & international journals, edited two books, and contributed chapters in many well-known textbooks on Diabetes and Endocrinology.

His awards and recognitions include:

• Inspiring Diabetologist/Endocrinologist Award from Economic Times (June 2020)
• AR Seth Gold Medal for best paper in ESICON 2007
• The Aesculapius Award and Silver Medal (2nd prize) at ESICON, 9–11 Dec 2010, CMC Vellore

Proposed Initiatives if Elected

If elected, I would like to create a separate study group for Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders (including obesity). This study group would promote the dissemination of knowledge and research in this domain.

Additionally, I wish to create a national network of Endocrinologists across India to care for individuals living with Type 1 diabetes and to help strengthen the public health system for managing this condition. Through sustained advocacy, I aim to ensure that the national government implements a policy for universal screening of congenital hypothyroidism.

In continuation of the current activities of the society, I will work to ensure better development of soft skills for Endocrinologists at all levels. This would include workshops and teaching modules on:

• Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning
• Health Economics
• Public Health Research
• Implementation Research
• Epidemiology

Dr. Ghosh is currently working as Professor of Endocrinology at the Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education & Research, Kolkata. He is actively involved in teaching and mentoring post-doctoral fellows, post-graduate students, Ph.D. scholars, and paramedical staff engaged in endocrine and diabetes care.

He has received several research and service awards and has published over 300 research papers and 11 books.

Dr. Ghosh has previously served as the Honorary Secretary of the Endocrine Society of India and as the Executive Editor of the Indian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism.

He was honored with the Best Researcher of the Year Award by ESI in 2024.

He is also the Organising Secretary of ESICON 2025.

“Vasudeva Kutumbukam” ascribes all that I aspire for this “brilliant minds” community called Endocrine Society of India.

I believe we, as torchbearers of endocrinology in India, have been aptly guided by our forefathers, and now is the time to take our contributions in this field to the world. We need to be more vocal, more visible, so that we are offered faculty positions at international meetings and due recognition.

 We need to garner and nurture young colleagues for taking up research, providing them with ignition grants, access to off-shore collaborators, and Indian mentors in various fields of endocrinology. I believe that none of them should feel alienated and instead consider ESI as the mother body, which is ready to handhold them for career-making in practice or excel in research, whichever avenue they choose.

 ESI members should have access to the guidelines for all endocrinological disorders. A ready access to the updated slide set (PowerPoint presentations) of endocrinology topics for presentations at various forums and regular update of the member directory shall be ensured.

Cross-connect programs with other specialties are the need of the hour, especially cardiologists, hepatologists, gynaecologists, orthopedics, etc, so that Endocrinologists would be more “sought after”.

Dr Ashu Rastogi

Dr. Ashu Rastogi is an Additional Professor in the Department of Endocrinology at PGIMER, Chandigarh, India.

He has a keen research interest in diabetic foot complications and is the inventor of a novel topical esmolol for diabetic foot ulcers (DFU), along with several innovations related to Charcot neuroarthropathy of the foot.

His research has resulted in more than 150 indexed publications in prestigious journals including Lancet (Public Health), Diabetes Care, JAMA, and JCEM.

Dr. Rastogi has mentored numerous students pursuing DM Endocrinology, MD Medicine, and PhD Endocrinology, and is widely respected for his unparalleled passion for teaching.

He is the Founder Secretary of the Endocrine Society of India (Chandigarh Chapter) and RSSDI Chandigarh Chapter, and currently serves as the Secretary of DFSI.

It is a matter of big honor for me to present my candidature for the post of Joint-Secretary in our prestigious Endocrine Society of India. My dream is to promote better collaboration among endocrinologists across the country in clinical research, collaborative work and clinically relevant multicentric projects. I would strongly promote the adoption of digital technology to bridge the gap between endocrinologists in urban, semi-urban & rural areas. I have been blessed & deeply grateful to be timely guided by several senior endocrinologists during my early career phase. I am committed to collaborate & be a team worker with all the young endocrinologists in our country to benefit them both in practice as well as research.

My dream is that endocrinologists from across the globe should look up to ESI as their guiding light in the field of endocrinology. I propose to work hard for setting up of a dedicated journal on diabesity & metabolic syndrome from ESI, which would help promote as well as highlight the important work done in India & south Asian on this global pandemic, which is affecting us the most. Together we can propel ESI to newer height in national & international recognition.

He deeply values the core principles of the Endocrine Society of India (ESI), especially its commitment to inclusiveness. Dr. Dutta is well versed in English, Hindi, Bengali, and Tamil, and aspires to learn more languages.

I have been fortunate to contribute meaningfully to the growth and outreach of our Society.

During my tenure:

• ESI Focus has become a sought-after academic platform for young endocrinologists and trainees.
• ESI Scope, has been uplifted to a widely appreciated forum among physicians, enhancing endocrine visibility, increasing exposure to both young and experienced endocrinologists.

        As I apply for a position on the Executive Committee of the Endocrine Society of India- the organisation that has played a foundational role in shaping endocrinology in our country, I do so with a sense of purpose and deep respect for the Society’s longstanding contributions to the field. I completed my DM in Endocrinology in 2012 from Gauhati Medical College and began my career as an Associate Consultant at Medanta Medicity. In 2013, I moved to Siliguri, becoming the first endocrinologist in North Bengal.

After a few years in a corporate setup, I established my own Endocrine and Diabetes Clinic, which has grown steadily over time. Having had the privilege of treating over 50,000 patients, I’ve witnessed the impact of consistent, compassionate care.

My journey has been both challenging and fulfilling, and I remain committed to clinical excellence, academic engagement, and spreading awareness about endocrinology.

If elected, I would like to put efforts to enhance the original research potential in ESI, to generate Indian data on endocrine disorders. This could be achieved by networking and linking interested ESI members focused on a particular disorder together on a research project and help facilitate generate funding for the same through several national and international funding bodies. Another dimension that I would like to work would be on bringing ESI activities on the global map. This could be achieved with coordinated efforts of involving good international connections of several ESI members and promoting ESI representation in several international forums. Furthermore, a significant need has been identified to promote awareness of general public on the crucial role of endocrinologists in managing common endocrine disorders. To facilitate this, I would like to work on processes to improve the public awareness in this regard. This would help not only the current established generation but even future/budding endocrinologists. The last aspect that I would like to propose if elected would be to create a platform for a mentorship program, where one early/mid-career endocrinologist(mentee) could be linked to a senior endocrinologist(mentor) to foster mentorship and collaboration.

Dr. Nitin is currently working as a Professor and Head (Unit 1) in the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Christian Medical College, Vellore.

He has been a member of the Endocrine Society of India (ESI) for over a decade and has served as an Executive Committee Member for the last 3 years.

He has been instrumental in initiating and conducting several ESI activities including the recently concluded ESI EnSPIRE program.

As part of the ESI Obesity Task Force, he brought together 40 ESI members who volunteered to contribute to a joint position statement on obesity with the Obesity Surgery Society of India. He also led a nationwide Train the Trainer obesity program for ESI members.

As a member of the ESI Skeletal Task Force, Dr. Nitin has applied for an INR 8 million multicentric grant from the ICMR, involving sites led by 9 ESI members across India.

He also recently hosted the ESI Foundation Day program in January 2025 and has contributed to organizing several other ESI programs since ESICON 2010.

In recognition of his contributions to the society, Dr. Nitin was awarded the ESI President Award of Appreciation in 2022.

I am Prof. Pinaki Dutta, endocrinologist with more than 25 years of experience dedicated to teaching and advancing pituitary and thyroid research. Throughout my career, I have been committed to fostering excellence in patient care and mentoring the next generation of endocrinologists. My contributions span groundbreaking research, impactful publications, and initiatives that bridge the gap between clinical practice and academic innovation.

We have footfall of 2500 patients in three outpatient clinic every week. I personally manage 100 patients per OPD, and supervision and discussion of cases seen by endocrine fellows and internal medicine residents. I guide almost 5 endocrine and medicine fellows per academic session spanning 3 years. I offer tremendous clinical resources for the young endocrinologists which will help in clinical practice.  As a candidate for the executive committee member of the ESI, my mission will be to promote patient care excellence that transcends geographical boundaries.

I envision a global network of endocrinologists working collaboratively to address disparities in endocrine healthcare. By enhancing education, encouraging multidisciplinary research, and advocating for equitable healthcare policies, we can ensure that the benefits of endocrine science reach every patient in need in all states and countries.

Dr. S. Ramkumar is a Professor of Endocrinology at Saveetha Medical College and a Consultant at Apollo Hospitals and Dr. Ram’s Clinic, Chennai.

He was instrumental in establishing the DM Endocrinology course at Madras Medical College and has been a strong advocate for renaming it to DM Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism to better represent the breadth of the specialty.

A staunch proponent of comprehensive endocrinology training, he firmly opposes short-term fellowships that may compromise the depth of learning in this field.

He is also the Founder of the Turner Syndrome Foundation of India.

Dr. S. Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy

I am applying for the post of Executive Committee Member of ESI for the term 2025-2028. My aim is to work as a team with the Office Bearers of ESI towards the advancement of clinical care, education, and research in Endocrinology in India, and to help place India prominently on the global map.

I will actively participate and collaborate with ESI in patient-centered activities organized for endocrine care in both urban and rural areas, through physical and online modes.

I will facilitate smooth communication between ESI members, Office Bearers, and the Executive Committee to ensure that practical concerns raised by members are addressed promptly and effectively.

With regard to ESICON 2026, which has been awarded to Chennai, I will serve as Joint Organising Secretary and work closely with ESI to make it a grand success.

Promoting research in Endocrinology is a key focus area of ESI, with multiple grants offered annually. I will work with the Office Bearers and Executive Committee to ensure the timely announcement and disbursal of these grants to deserving ESI members.

Promoting education in Endocrinology is another core mission of ESI. I will coordinate with the ESI team to conduct educational programs for physicians, general practitioners, postgraduates in Endocrinology and Medicine, as well as other allied specialties.

I am committed to working diligently towards fulfilling the objectives of the Endocrine Society of India.

Dr. S. Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy completed DM Endocrinology from SGPGI, Lucknow in the year 2011. He has been a life member of the Endocrine Society of India (ESI) since 2014.

He is the Director of Vijay Diabetes, Thyroid & Endocrine Clinic, Puducherry since 2014 and has authored 20 publications in endocrine journals.

Dr. Reddy served as Secretary for 3 years and Executive Member for 6 years in the Endocrine Society of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, an affiliate of ESI.

He was also part of the Organising team of the ESI Satellite Symposium conducted in Puducherry in 2023.

His objective is to work towards the advancement of endocrine care, education, and research in India.

Dr. Shehla Shaikh has been a consultant endocrinologist for the past 25 years, currently practicing at Saifee Hospital and HN Reliance Hospital.

An alumna of TN Medical College and Nair Hospital, she has a strong interest in patient-centred care and research aimed at improving clinical outcomes and quality of life. Her research has included significant work on obesity and diabetes during Ramadan.

She follows a holistic approach, working closely with individuals managing diabetes, thyroid disorders, PCOS, osteoporosis, and other endocrine conditions. Her individualized treatment plans consider the diverse needs of people living in different circumstances and with varied goals.

Dr. Shaikh has received numerous accolades, most recently the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Educational and Medical Sciences Award for developing a risk stratification score to assess fasting risks during Ramadan.

Her administrative skills have been shaped by her leadership roles in the Maharashtra Endocrine Society and as an Executive Committee Member of the Endocrine Society of India.

Known for her ability to connect across generations and her cheerful temperament, she fosters effective teamwork while staying focused on goals. Her vision is to create local solutions within a global framework and to empower healthcare providers with the skills to restore health in a universal and affordable manner.
